Past Conferences Overview
Since 2002, DMC has been successful at finding conference locations that have been equally attractive for their conference agendas as they have been for their scenic locations because we firmly believe that there are just as many professional opportunities for growth that exist outside the "classroom" through networking with colleagues and product representatives as exists within the conference hall itself.
In 2002, our second DMC President, Dr. Clifford Hames, along with the conference planning committee, chose to have our conference in the Catskills at the site of the former Granite Hotel, now known as Hudson Valley Resort and Spa.
In 2003, we shifted our conference location to the Adirondack region of NY and found the Fort William-Henry Resort and Conference Center best-suited to our needs. In conjunction with Clinical Directors Network (CDN), parts of our annual DMC conference were webcast; and in conjunction with Sybron Endo and University of Rochester, we were proud to offer our first "hands on " class in rotary endodontics.
In 2004, we celebrated our 10th year as Dental Management Coalition, and traveled outside our home region to Club Med-Sandpiper in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Presentations from nationally known speakers and organizations highlighted an extended weekend that received high marks from those who attended.
In 2005, we chose the Kingsmill in Williamsburg, Virginia to be our venue based on their excellent conference facilities, room accommodations and onsite amenities. Our agenda this year highlighted Healthy People 2010 objectives, dental needs and concerns during each human life cycle, and the interrelationship of oral health to overall health.
In 2006, we regrouped and strategically planned our future as an organization as we transitioned DMC presidential leadership from Dr. Clifford Hames to Dr. Ronald Salyk.
In 2007, we planned a wonderful conference at the Platinum Hotel and Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada. Our agenda included everything from dental materials to forensic dentistry with a wide array of renowned speakers.
In 2008, we revisited one of our favorite venues, Club Med - Sandpiper, and we provided our audience with timely subjects including preventive dentistry, minimally invasive dentistry, oral surgery, practice management, and bisphophonate related osteoradionecrosis of the jaw.
2009 brought us back home to Region II to celebrate our 15th year as Dental Management Coalition with Dr. Janet Lavandeira as our new DMC President. We just completed a GREAT conference at the Westin Jersey City Newport Hotel in Jersey City, NJ. Topics planned for our agenda included geriatric dentistry, pharmacology and medication management in dentistry, oral surgery, Health Center dental program practice management and much more.
In 2010, we ventured south to the Westin Annapolis in Annapolis, Maryland, where we celebrated the life of Dr. James Townes, the first president of Dental Management Coaltion. Dr. Jay Anderson, HRSA Chief Dental Officer, presented the first James W. Townes DDS Memorial Lecture, talking about the role of leadership and the changes that are taking place in oral health during these times of health care reform and Health Center expansion. Topics on the agenda included Pharmacology, Dental Caries Management and Prevention; Prevention and Awareness of Child Abuse and Neglect , Dental Infection Control, Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management; Operation of a Dental Mobile Van, and Oral Health Literacy.
